Jodaline is unique because according to our knowledge it is the only machine that heats the HDPE on the correct temperature. There are 3 other methods for the re-lining of steel pipe with HDPE that currently exist.

Jodaline was invented due to the high request of relining. Bongata was registered in 2003 by Johan’s son, Dirk Jansen van Nieuwenhuizen.  New planning and inventing started in 2009 when Dirk started to get involved.

The main reason for designing the flange former is that it is more environmental friendly than installing a new pipe. All work is performed on site: that means less transpotation and less transportation is less harm to the world and environment.

Jodaline offers the end user the advantage of both systems: the high pressure capabilities and structural integrity of steel pipes, combined with the advantages of the HDPE pipes described above. Where existing pipes are installed, these too can be re-lined with HDPE, and can be done on site and in site, with virtually no user down-time of production, all of which offers significant savings to the end user.

Jodaline 1A

Jodaline was formed in 1990 to address the outgoing problems experienced with existing steel piping systems in the industrial, civil, and especially the mining sector.  These problems are generally as a result of abrasion, corrosion and erosion, and can be attributed to the weaknesses of steel piping, which are compounded by the ageing infrastructure in South African industries and mines.

Steel pipes are often replaced by High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes, which have a high resistance against corrosion, abrasion and crustation (build-up on inside walls of pipes), and good resistance to most industrially-used chemicals. Furthermore, HDPE offers a smooth surface with low friction losses. However, due to the limitations of HDPE, pipes produced from this polymer are only usable in low-to-medium pressure applications (600kPa to 2 500kPa), and thicker wall thicknesses are required for medium and heavy slurry applications, to overcome not only the internal pressure, but also the extra corrosiveness of these slurries.


All the pipes will re-lined with a HDPE sleeve (which is 1-2 mm smaller in diameter than the inside diameter of the pipe). If the HDPE sleeve is damaged, or it wear and tears the cost of replacing it is 40% cheaper than installing a new pipe system.

Pipe repair

Erosion, Abrasion and Crustation can lead to the formation of grooves, valleys, wavy surfaces, holes, etc., with a characteristic directional appearance. This will cause leaks, pipeline failure,environmental damage and lost production. Complete replacements of these pipelines will cost time and money but with the re-lining of Jodaline's unique flange former it will be 40% cheaper than installing a whole new pipe system.

HDPE linings

HDPE (High-density polyethylene or polyethylene high-density (PEHD) is a polyethylene thermoplastic made from petroleum. It has light weight, low moisture absorption, and high tensile strength. HDPE is also non-toxic and non-staining and meets FDA and USDA certification for food processing, which makes it Jodalines top product for re-lining.

HDPE slip lining

Slip lining is a popular and trusted trenchless method that allows you to rehabilitate deteriorating pipe by inserting a smaller pipe into an existing pipe. As a trenchless method, slip lining can be applied to either pressure or gravity pipelines. Water, sanitary and storm sewers can be renewed with minimum excavation. When done properly, slip lining ensures that the rehabilitated pipe and lateral connections are leak-tight, corrosion resistant, and capable of even greater flow rates.

HDPE sleeve

Jodaline with its unique and one of a kind flange former will re-line old or new pipes with HDPE sleeves. This is a light weight product and is easy to use and install.

Steel pipe re-sleeve

Steel pipes, old or new, will be re-sleeved with a HDPE lining which is 1-2mm smaller in diameter than the inside wall of the existing pipe. As a result no extra, unnecessary stress are introduced in the HDPE liner.

The most cost effective pipeline corrosion prevention or rehabilitation method is usually achieved through the installation of an HDPE liner. The installation of an HDPE liner not only reduces pipeline corrosion and erosion, it also reduces pipeline friction.

Lined pipe

A lined pipe is any kind of pipe with HDPE lining/ sleeve inside. The sleeve will be 1-2mm in diameter smaller than the inside wall of the pipe so that the sleeve has no stress, stretch or any damage.

Pipe solutions

HDPE re-lining is the solution to any kind of pipe problem. Jodaline's flange former, a world's first, is manufactured by folding HDPE liner onto the flange connection. As a result, the flange connection is manufactured from the same material as the HDPE liner, there are no welding of the HDPE involved, and the flange connection follows the continuous, natural "grain" of the HDPE liner.


As a rigid hollow tube or cylinder, in conjunction with fittings and valves, pipe is used to create systems to transport liquids, liquid-solid mixtures, fragmented solids and air from one point to another.

Pipeline corrosion protection

Corrosion is caused by the relative movement between a corrosive fluid and metal surface. HDPE re-lining will help with this problem. The HDPE re-lining is a once pay, install and forget solution.

Pipeline abrasion protection

Abrasion is a wearing, grinding, or rubbing away by friction process. HDPE re-lining will protect your pipe on the inside so no abrasion can take place.

Pipeline erosion protection

Erosion is the process that breaks things down. With HDPE re-lining the inside wall of your pipe will be protected and no erosion will take place.

This is the combination of two different pipes working together as one.

Pipe linings

All the pipes will re-lined with a HDPE sleeve (which is 1-2 mm smaller in diameter than the inside diameter of the pipe). This allow for the differential in expansion and contraction rate between the steel and HDPE pipes, and the HDPE liner can thus move freely and naturally as a result of this expansion and contraction, even under the most extreme temperaturefluctuations.
